MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- A father accused of killing his girlfriend and writing satanic messages on the wall in her blood was turned into police by his own son.

During a preliminary hearing Wednesday, detectives revealed that Maxmillian Ocon's son called police after his father told him his girlfriend, Rafaelia Ortiz, was dead and he may have strangled her.

La Vergne Detective Bob Hayes testified that Ortiz, 48, was strangled with a rope and hit in the head with a hammer. She was found dead in her bed.

Ortiz's hearing-impaired daughter was in the house at the time and had no idea her mother was dead.

Detective Bob Hayes testified that Ocon told him that he and Ortiz had argued that morning and that Ortiz tried attacking him with a hammer. Ocon told the detective he fainted or blacked out at some point and then remembers waking up and seeing Ortiz was dead.

Detectives said the message on the wall read "the devil within" in Spanish.

Hayes said Ocon told him when he and his girlfriend argued the devil came out of her.

The case has now been handed over to a grand jury.
